Fabric Wall Art

In the time I've been sewing, I've amassed a large amount of fabric scraps. I don't really want to have to keep storing them, but I also don't want to throw them away, so I've been looking for projects to use them up. This fabric art was one idea I found on Pinterest that looked pretty cool, so I decided to try it out. I think they turned out great!

I started off by getting two wooden frames from Walmart. The frames weren't as dark as I wanted, so I got some paint and a brush to paint them. They already had string in the back to hang the pictures, which was convenient. I knew I wanted to have a goose in one of the frames, but I wasn't sure about the other one.
After sorting through my fabric scraps, I decided on making a mountain/barn scene in one of the frames, and the goose in the other. I used all-purpose Elmer's glue to hold the fabric down in the frame.
Before everything was glued down, I tried to put different images together and see how the different fabrics looked side by side. Once I knew more of what I wanted, then I started gluing.
For the mountain painting, I had to glue the background of the scene first, then build up the layers until I made it to the front. The little barn was probably the hardest part - the pieces were so tiny! I still might add sheep to it, but the sheep will have to be even tinier!
The goose painting was a little more simple. I had a scrap of white fabric that was about the right size, so I looked up a goose silhouette on my phone and freehanded a copy onto the fabric scrap. After cutting the piece out, I had a perfect little goose! I sewed the goose onto a darker fabric scrap cut into an oval shape. Then I sewed the oval scrap onto the background piece, and glued the background piece to the frame! I absolutely love how it turned out - so cute!
I'm really proud of how these wall hangings turned out, and I got to use up some more of my fabric scraps! I might make a table runner or something like that next, who knows?
