Alternate Stitch Washcloth

A couple of days ago, I made the mistake of trying to learn the jasmine stitch while watching a tv show. I still really want to learn the jasmine stitch, but wanted something a little easier for a washcloth or something similar to make while watching (being distracted by) my show. After a few variations, I decided to use a combination of simple stitches both for visual appeal and overall simplicity.
This washcloth pattern can also be used as an oversized potholder, as it's made using cotton yarn, which holds up well against heat. The pattern uses three main types of stitches - single crochet, slip stitch, and half-double crochet. This makes it easy enough for beginners to make, provided you can count stitches accurately enough to keep track of where you are at.
Materials:
Cotton yarn, any color (does not need to be cotton, but cotton is best)
5 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Crochet/tapestry needle
Instructions:
Make a slip knot. Chain 31.
Rows 1 - 4: Single crochet (SC). Chain 1 and turn.
Rows 5 - 32: SC 4. Slip stitch. Half double crochet. Continue to alternate between slip stitch and half double crochet until you have 4 stitches remaining in the row. SC 4. Chain 1 and turn.
Rows 33 - 36: SC. Chain 1 and turn.
Chain 1, cut, and knot to finish.
Use your needle to weave in the two yarn ends so they are secure and not visible.
