Crochet Gingerbread and Candy Cane Ornaments

I've been making a lot of ornaments this week! I wanted to learn how to make these last year, but I was so busy crocheting Christmas gifts for everyone that I didn't have time to make anything else. I wish I would've made these sooner though, because they turned out so cute! They didn't take much time to make either, one Christmas movie later, and they were all finished!

Materials:

Medium-weight yarn (brown, white, red, black)

5 mm crochet hook

Crochet needle

Scissors

Instructions:

The Gingerbread Man:

Start with a slipknot, then chain 4 and connect with a slip stitch.

The head:

DC in center ring. Continue until you have a total of 13

DC in the round. Connect with a slip stitch.

The arm:

Chain 6. Insert hook into 2nd chain stitch from bottom and double crochet. Double

crochet in the next stitch. Repeat. The first arm is done.

The leg:

Chain 8. Insert hook into 4th chain stitch from bottom and double crochet. Continue to DC down in each stitch (should be 8 DCs total). First leg is done.

Second leg:

Slip stitch into bottom stitch of head. Chain 11. Start to DC in each stitch along the back (4 total).

Body:

Insert your hook into the next chain stitch, then into the aligning stitch on the other leg.

DC to connect them. Do the same for the next stitch, and the stitches after, until you have 4 of those connecting DCs total. Slip stitch into bottom of head.

Second arm:

Chain 3, insert hook into 3rd stitch down the leg (3rd stitch from where your chain started). Chain 5. Insert hook 4 stitches down and double crochet. DC in the next stitch.

Connect securely to the bottom of the head.

Cut and knot to finish. Weave in ends.

Use the crochet needle to embroider details on the gingerbread, like the face and buttons.

Thread a piece of yarn through the top of the gingerbread and knot it into a loop to hang.

The Candy Cane:

Start with red yarn. Make a slip knot. Chain 30.

Make 2 single crochets in each chain. When you reach the end of the row, chain 1, cut, and

knot. Weave in ends.

Repeat for other side of the candy cane using white yarn.

Twist the two coiled strands together. Poke wire or a pipe cleaner in the middle to bend into a candy cane shape, or just leave as a stick.

Thread a piece of yarn through the top of the candy cane and knot it into a loop to hang.
