Wrist Keychain Lanyard

I've had the same lanyard since I started driving, which isn't a big deal. There's nothing wrong with it, the writing has faded a little and the metal is scuffed. Lately, I've been wanting a wrist lanyard since I don't really wear my keys around my neck as much anymore. Rather than buying one, I thought I'd make a couple of them for fun and post my instructions! Maybe you'll be inspired to create your own unique wrist lanyard!

Materials:
Scrap fabric
Metal key ring
Sewing supplies (thread, scissors, etc.)
Instructions:
Select your fabric. If you're using scraps like I did, you can piece them together to make bigger pieces if needed.
Cut a 1.5 x 10 inch strip from one type of fabric, then cut two 1.5 x 3 inch strips from a contrasting fabric. Stitch these together (as shown below), and the outside strip of your lanyard will be assembled.

From here, you can follow the same steps to make an identical strip of fabric, or you can just use one solid piece of fabric for the second strip. The finished piece will need to be about 1.5 x 14.5 inches to match the size of the first strip of fabric.
Now that you have your two strips of fabric, place them together (right sides facing inward) and sew (1/4 inch) around the edge of the fabric, leaving an opening at the very end.
I used my pinking shears around the edges, but that isn't necessary for this project.

Turn out the fabric tube (so the right sides are facing out again) and iron flat. Tuck the end with the raw edges into the hole, and sew shut along the very edge. Continue stitching around the edge of the whole lanyard piece until you make it back to the beginning.
Now fold your lanyard piece in half and tuck the edges over a bit (as shown below). Sew shut to secure (it helps to go slowly through this part).
You can use the key ring to determine how much space you will need, but take it out before you start sewing!

Thread the keyring back through the loop at the end of the lanyard. It's finished! This is a great project to do quickly or if your just starting to sew and would like some practice. I hope you enjoyed this post!
