I went through a blanket yarn phase a couple years ago and now I have this big bag of leftover blanket yarn that I hardly ever use! This is a great project to use up leftover blanket yarn, or to make as a gift for your favorite cat lover! Adjust the number of stitches for a bigger or smaller size.

Materials:

  • I also used some of the plain white Bernat baby blanket yarn for the paws

Some black acrylic yarn

Scissors

Plastic eyes (these are optional, you can always stitch some on)

If you are using plastic eyes, now is a good time to add them.

Stuff the plushie body.

Using a crochet needle, sew up the opening with yarn, secure and knot.

The tail:

Make a slipknot. Chain 30.

Row 1:

DC.

Row 2:

Row 4:

Using a crochet needle, sew the top and bottom of your tail together to form a tube. Then, sew up the top of the tail. Sew the bottom part of the tail to the base of the back of your cat body. Adjust the tail in the position you want, then stitch into place.

If you haven't placed the eyes yet, you can place them now, or stitch eyes on.

To stitch on a nose and mouth, use the crochet needle to wrap the black acrylic yarn around the spot where you want the nose to be. Wrap multiple times for a defined nose. Without cutting the yarn, stitch where you want the mouth to be. Try to keep the stitching loose, so the detail is easier to see! Stitch a few whiskers on both sides of the mouth.
